It’s been a little less than three years since Quentin Tarantino’s last film Django Unchained arrived in theaters on Christmas Day 2012. That film went on to receive critical acclaim and five Oscar nominations, site including best picture. On Oscar night, it went home with two statues– one for Tarantino’s original script and one for the best supporting performance of Christoph Waltz.
This Christmas, Tarantino’s newest film The Hateful Eight is set to arrive in theaters. The film stars Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson and Walton Goggins and like Django, is another Western ensemble. The film’s production wasn’t always assured though. In early 2014 (before filming had begun), the script was leaked and Tarantino shelved the project, according to Deadline.com. The Oscar-winning director though later changed his mind and went full speed ahead.
